Taking Small Steps Towards Renewable Energy: A Personal Journey

Do you remember those crazy electricity Bill spikes last summer urging El Nino? It was so intense that I swear I had a mini heart attack before even opening this month’s Bill. I’m still trying to recover from that hit, especially financially. I told myself I don’t wanna go through that again. And it’s not just the financial impact, it also got me thinking why we endure such intense heat.

There is, in fact, strong scientific consensus that human activities are the main drivers of global warming. This is pretty concerning. I’m not going to pretend I’ve always been all about sustainable living, but it’s clear everywhere we look that we need to be more mindful of how we live. So what we can do right now is start small. Honestly, I sometimes feel overwhelmed by the idea of making big changes, but taking one small step is all it takes to begin making the switch to renewable energy. It doesn’t have to be sudden either.

Okay, so this is not sponsored, but I’m really proud of my solar powered power bank. This charges my phone, speakers, and tablet. Just think about the financial savings and environmental impact if we could rely solely on natural resources that are clean and replenished at a higher rate than they are consumed, like sunlight, wind, geothermal heat to charge our gadgets. It’s pretty amazing.

I also got a solar powered light for my kitchen. So now I no longer have to use any electricity when I’m in that part of the condo or while I’m preparing my food. These are just baby steps for now.

When I move into my own house in the future, I’m determined to invest in solar panels. That way, I won’t stress about rising electricity bills and my home will have a dependable electricity source, especially with all the brown outs we have here in the Philippines. It’s about ensuring comfort for me, future family and doing my part to help Mother Earth. I’d love to hear how you all integrate renewable energy into your daily routine.
