Navigating Abortion Laws in Florida: Understanding Judicial Bypass for Minors

Sometimes teenagers get pregnant and they want an abortion, but they can’t or don’t want to involve a parent in that decision. Under Florida’s law, anyone 18 and under needs a parent’s permission in order to get an abortion. But there is another option. A judge can grant what is called judicial bypass, which allows teens to decide about abortion with out appearance involvement. A private meeting with the judge may sound intimidating, but it’s really just a conversation to find out how mature the team is, what’s in their best interest and if any abuse was involved.
