Behind the Beat: Creating ‘Take it Slow’ – A Musical Journey with Jay

Jay, I’m gonna show you how I made my song. Take it slow, splice loop.

Normally, I don’t start with a splice loop because to be honest, I’m an art snob and I feel like it’s a little lazy to do that, but I did it and it yielded in cool results so it doesn’t really matter.

Drums I had originally written the song for a woman. So like in the vocals, I sang more feminine. Can we take it? So I recorded those. I use the Triton for this classic 2 Faro Neptunes. Of course, the most important part, that tempo changes. The song starts off at 105 BPM, but then it slowly gets faster and faster all the way through the pre chorus. As you can hear, it’s much more faster chorus, but it slows on down at the chorus. I almost forgot to show you guys the guitars, which are so important and beautiful. They were recorded by my friend Simon Oscar. Just listen to how beautiful these are. Like outro, I found this 90s sample CD and I essentially just put that into a sampler and turned it into MIDI. I took the drums, made them half time. Yeah, there you have it. Go stream. Take it slow and drink a lot of water.
