Fueling and Nourishing the Artistic Swimmer: A Day in the Life of a Team USA Athlete

So apparently you’re supposed to wait 30 minutes after eating before getting in the pool. But I don’t think that applies you. This is what I eat in a day as an artistic swimmer on Team USA. Also everything that I’d eat if I had to swim 14 and a half hours straight, I was able to see young women and the sea. And like Trudy, I typically train eight to 10 hours at the pool every day. So I think we would have really similar ways of fueling our body. However, artistic swimming is a teeny bit different. We’re upside down and spinning a lot. So I’d be eating a little lighter than shrewdy would at practice.

At 5:30 a. M. Before practice, I had my yogurt and granola and of course, coffee because it’s important to have carbohydrates and protein. And after we finish land at 8, I had a few apple slices and then we swam until noon.

On our snack break, I chose to have strawberries and popcorn, their simple carbohydrates and digest really well while you’re training. Simple carbohydrates are super important to have throughout the day because it provides a quick energy source.

During our breaks, we typically eat on land, obviously, but when I was watching the movie, Trudy ate in the water. So I asked my teammate Ruby, if she would be willing to test out the Trudy way of eating. Let me tell you, it’s a much less enjoyable break. And now I have even more respect for Trudy because of her dedication to state in the water. I got home around 3:30 and after practice I was starving, so I made myself some Turkey roll UPS because they’re really high in protein and I need to feel my body after that long day. Protein is so important after you work out because it’s how you build muscles. So for dinner, I also chose something of protein heavy and made myself tacos at around six PM with lots of beans and ground beef. So want to incorporate some vegetables. So there’s lettuce, avocado, corn and fajita veggies sauce girl. So of course I added a little bit of vegan queso and salsa and garnished with the teeny bit of cilantro. And I added some chips for carbohydrates, but I mainly added them just because they’re delicious. And these tacos were at 10 out of 10 for me. Of course, throughout the day, I’m drinking lots of water with electrolyte and I finish my day with the dairy free soft service for pleasure because that does matter. Trudy Swim was truly inspiring learning more about her journey across the channel and as being a pioneer for women athletes everywhere is something I really admire. I highly recommend you check out Young Women in the sea, which will be streaming on Disney plus starting July 19th.
