A Week Without Single Use Plastics: My Journey Towards a Sustainable Lifestyle

We have made it a week without buying any new single use plastics. My day started like any other. At 3:00am I had a lot of energy, so I decided to go on a run. Well, let’s figure out goo. I like to consume goo or honey stinger, but those are in single use plastics. So we’re making our own. We’ve got some green tea powder, salt, honey, magnesium and citric acid. I borrowed this tiny spoon from Jenny’s in the shock glasses from NPR. That was pretty good. It kind of fueled me for my run. And I also saw the stack of magazines on the street. I thought it would be perfect for my collage night next month. But then I realize they were all wet. My peach cubes were like taking on water. They did not contain this much water. They must have been like absorbing it from the air. One of you guys told me to put it in the oven with it off just so they could dry out and the flies wouldn’t get to it. And I realize my soap had turned into goo. I do not know how this happened. I only used a tiny cube.

After that, I got to work on my granola bars because I was hosting a party and I did wanna have some snacks for people to eat. Usually I spend between one and 3 hundred dollars on hosting a party just for snacks and drinks and all that the stuff. But this time I actually used ingredients that I already had. So I only spent about like probably 15 on like the citric acid powder and stuff. I don’t like following recipes because I prefer to measure with my heart, which is what I did and they turned out great.

One of my favorite snacks is canned green beans. I don’t know. I just find them delicious. I had to take a nap before running out of two of my multi purpose cleaners. I had this glass vial of cleaner concentrate. So I just mix that with water. And there you go.

Plastic free cleaner. I guess almost plastic free because a vial wasn’t a plastic bag. For the party, I gave my friends a heads up that I would not be providing any single use plastics. I need some plants to get the dragons. I also told people to bring their own cups, which they did. I made some frozen pizzas and popcorn I had, but we did end up ordering takeout. So I spent $15 and this was all of my ash.
