Unveiling the Truth: Why I Started Open Igloo – An Anonymous Platform for Rental Reviews and City Data

I get asked all the time why I started open igloo. This is the reason. Because every day in New York City, renters fight tooth and nail to hand over thousands of dollars to potentially only learn that the landlord and the building is a disaster. I hate the status quo in New York. I hate the fact that landlords ask for a million in one documents, but you get zero information in return on whether that landlord is good, whether they’re paying their bills, whether they maintain the building, whether their current and past tenants are happy. And I hate that renchers are not treated like paying customers in this city.

So that’s why I started Open igloo, a platform former renters could anonymously read and share reviews about their rental experiences and access city data on any address and landlord. What I hope for and what I fight for every day is that buildings like this that are infested with roaches and mice and horrendous problems remain empty and no one rents them until the landlord gets their together. But I can’t do it without your help. So please anonymously review all the buildings you’ve ever lived in. Tell a friend. And I beg of you, if you are apartment hunting, please do not sign a lease until you’ve read the reviews, until you check the city data, until you’ve researched the landlord and come to the conclusion that it is worth your hard earned money. We’re a small team based in Brooklyn, New York, and I promise we read emails, we read DM. So if you ever have any questions or feedback, don’t hesitate to reach out.
