Exploring the Ethical Dilemma: Why Not Paying a Nanny for Vacation Work is Unfair and Unjust

Tell you why it’s wrong to not pay a nanny when you take them on vacation. You take a nanny on vacation with you is probably $2,000 minimum. It’s not a vacation for the nanny. This is a work trip and they should be getting paid for the work. First of all, the cost to take a nanny or a babysitter on a trip with you is astronomical. So not only are you paying them their regular hours that they’d be working at home, paying them a daily travel fee, like a per DM fee. They have to share a room. You are paying them an overnight fee. I pay for all costs they incur. So where you’re staying, their flights, all their food would never go on a trip for free.

It doesn’t matter where in the world it could be, too. I’m not calling out this person specifically. There were a lot of other comments like this. But anyone who says that they would go on a trip because someone was paying for the flights in exchange for travel childcare has never done that. A lot of people were commenting that they would do any type of work to be able to see the world. When you’re working, you can’t see the world. If you’re watching children, that either means that you’re probably at a resort or at a hotel watching the children the whole time.

When I travel, I do require having a short break, but it’s never enough of a break that I could go somewhere or go sightseeing or go on a tour. Usually it’ll just be a few hours in the afternoon. I’ll go to the beach or the beach club, depending on where we are. I’ll go for a bike ride. I’ll go in my room sometimes and just rest or take a nap because it’s exhausting to have to work while other people are on vacation. So while it’s a vacation for the family you’re working for, it is not a vacation for the people you’re bringing along to help you. Just because you might be taking someone to a cool location does not mean they don’t deserve to be paid for their time. This is not vacation for them. Had people ask me to go to Europe for a month and not pay me. And the trip itself just be the payment, that’s ridiculous. People see the value of being taken to Europe as payment when really it’s just a luxury to have a travel nanny. Honestly, not sure how anyone could survive without working for a month. That is not realistic at all and is so unfair and is not the standard if you’re thinking about taking a babysitter or a nanny with you on vacation, just think about all the costs prior to that and know that taking someone and not paying them is not okay.
