Restoring My 1989 Zenith Space Command TV: A Journey of Dusting, Fixing, and Triumph

2,2. What it do? All right. So my 1989 Zenith Space Command just stopped working. This TV is five days older than my wife, my favorite childhood TV. And it just started glowing orange one day. I’m not sure what’s going on with it. I have never taken it apart. And this thing is 35 years old. So I’m gonna take it apart and see what’s going on in there. I’m just really hoping that the CRT bulb isn’t burned out cuz that would be a giant pain in the butt to change out on this TV. I don’t even know if you could just change that out. Oh, we’re gonna see.

Oh, man, look at all that dust. I guess this thing did spend like 10 years in the garage, but that is rough. I am sorry, Zenith. I should have dusted you off along long time ago. I’m kind of honestly surprised that it didn’t just burst into flame. Fortunately, though, I did just get this duster vacuum thing from the TikTok shop. And I’m really excited to see how powerful this thing is and to see how much does this can get off.

Well, I mean, it definitely work. There’s a lot less dust now. I mean, there’s still quite a few particulates or whatever all over, but, so it’s not that bad anymore. Those are definitely some old capacitors though, and it is showing a lot of like damage across this board. But you know it it looks okay. I have confidence it’s gonna work. It’s gonna work. Maybe all she needed was a little dusting.

Come on, baby, turn on. Yeah, well, it’s not working. The CRT bulb is not turning on. But, you know, I feel that the bulb is fine. There’s a fuse down, like down in here somewhere that’s not working. So that’s my guess. I’m gonna change that out and see if I could get power to the bulb. Cuz I don’t think the bulbs getting power. I think that fuses busted down there. So we’re gonna change that out. But you know, those glass tube fuses are not something that I keep on hand. So I did run to the store and I grabbed an assortment. Fortunately, I was able to find one that was 4 amp. 250 volt. So let’s see if it works.

Now. Look, it’s working. I feel so accomplished. I could fix so many things. All you have to do is just try. Take it apart, look at it and try. But now I’m gonna go play some duck hunt. So that’s what it do.
