Late-Night Super Caregiver Chronicles: Navigating a Challenging Day with Nicole

It is 1 53 a.m. and I am in super caregiver mode. Earlier today Nicole was dealing with some diarrhea and I just figure maybe she ate something that upset her stomach but it has been all day. And so when she went to the restroom earlier today Nicole she’s nonverbal so she pointed to her mouth to let me know that she wanted to be suction. So I’ll go get her suction machine and I’m thinking okay she just got a little mucus build up. She started projectile vomiting. And so cleaned her up. Been giving her liquids. So I thought she was good and I decided not to put her on her ventilator tonight because I’m like hmm if that happens she will aspirate and aspirate into her lungs and I definitely did not want that to happen. I’m glad I she was coughing. Listen to my instance because I heard her jump up run to the bathroom and again vomiting. And all I could think about is work because Pauline couldn’t work tomorrow. My niece was gonna watch Nicole so I can go to work but I don’t even feel comfortable leaving my niece with her because of this. And so we were off last Thursday because of the storm and we would have to use our PTO time to make up for those hours but that is cutting into my vacation birthday time for next month. And I might have to call out in the morning so more hours I will have to make up this week. I’m probably gonna have to pull 12-hour shift on Friday. Work some longer hours on I got a dentist appointment on Wednesday and Thursday. Yeah. Okay. I hope everybody is resting. Keep Nicole in your prayers. This is your girl, Shavon Stantz.
