Are you about to ask for a letter of recommendation but have absolutely no idea how to go about it? Hi, I’m Zoe and this is how to ask for a letter of recommendation. Instead of waiting until right before your college application is due, ask early. I personally ask my teachers at the end of my junior year, but if you’re a senior and haven’t asked yet, ask right away on the first day of school. This way you’re at the top of their list and if they have any limits on the amount of letters they write, you’re not going to get cut off. Instead of asking your freshman or sophomore year ask a junior year teacher or a teacher that you’ve had for multiple classes. These people know the newest version of you. Instead of just walking right up to a teacher and saying can I have a letter of recommendation, tell your teacher why you chose them, why your relationship with that teacher is important to you. Some teachers even like it when you include a letter saying why you chose them as well. Instead of just asking and walking away, also give your teachers a copy of your resume so your teachers can include other aspects of your your recommendation. Instead of asking them and never following up, reach out to your teachers throughout the year to make sure they are getting your letter done.
