Rising Up: The Push to Include Breaking in the Olympic Games

Breaking is not scheduled to be a part of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, and one petition starter wants that to change. Breaking, more commonly known as breakdancing, made its grand debut as an Olympic sport on Friday to mixed reviews. I don’t understand why they needed to make this as an Olympic sport. Don’t bring this to LA. I can appreciate that we’re trying to bring in more sports to the Olympics to get more representation, but this is not it, people. This is one chick. She’s Japanese. She’s 41 years old. Killing it. Oh, shit. Yumi Fukushima, you have a new fan. Now, a petition is calling on the International Olympic Committee to include the sport in the Los Angeles Games along with other dance styles like pointe and ballroom. According to the World Dance Sport Federation, the decision came down to the LA 2028 Organizing Committee, which instead opted to include sports like lacrosse, baseball softball, flag squash and cricket, which is coming back to the Olympics after more than a century. The Federation said it’s hoping Breaking will come back to the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane. What do you think? Should Breaking be included in 2028 and in future Olympic Games?
