Boutique Crushes: A Designer’s Pursuit of New York Fashion Week Success

I’ve got 53 active crushes right now, and this past week I’ve reached out to every single one of them to let them know how I feel. That sounds psychotic! Definitely. It’s less psychotic when I tell you that I’m a designer and these crushes are not on people, but they are on the coolest independent boutiques in the US and Canada. It’s about to be New York Fashion Week, which is really more like New York Fashion Month, and that means that buyers from all of these stores are very soon going to be descending upon the city, meeting with the reps of designers who they currently carry and maybe some designers who are thinking about picking up for this season. I’m sending all these emails in the hopes that a couple of them will book appointments to come see Maison Mercosien and meet me and chat about whether or not my line is a good fit for their store. It is a little bit like writing a love note and putting it in your crush’s locker where I’m like, Hi! You might not know who I am, but I’m a really big admirer of you and everything that you do. And do you maybe want to like hang out and we could like work together? So yeah, if you have a crush on a store, I’d love to hear about it. And if you’re interested in seeing my spreadsheet of store crushes, let me know because I think… I don’t want to blow up anybody’s spot and like show you their email addresses, but I do think it’d be cool to share this list of stores. There are some really, really good spots in there. They’re all over the country. Okay, thanks. Bye!
