favourite is git what does it really mean and where does it come from? This comment was left on my video about British insults and the word git is an interesting one because it didn’t appear in print until 1946 but it existed in spoken English for a long time before that and the word git is an alteration of the word get that dates back to the 14th century. Get is short for baguette not to be confused with a baguette that’s French bread. Get means to bring a child into existence so the word get or git as an insult would probably refer to an illegitimate child as it is an insult. So the word git has a very similar meaning to another offensive English word also means illegitimate child that I’m avoiding saying so my video doesn’t get flagged. So I hope that answered your question and let me know if you’ve got any more in the comments and don’t forget to give me a follow for daily grammar and language videos
