I grew up with my grandmother in the house with my mom. And I think in terms of the movie and the themes I was trying to explore was that so much of their conflict in the movie comes from a lack of understanding, a lack of having the vocabulary to understand one another. Joan and I talked a lot about, she said something when we were talking about the character and she said, I want to love you in the ways that you need, but I don’t know how. And I think it’s that not knowing that kind of is so much of the conflict in the movie and it’s her not knowing what he needs. And then the grandmother thinking that she knows what he needs and it’s different from what she thinks he needs. And so it’s kind of this like three generations of loss in translation of three generational gaps under one house and that can often come to a clash and ahead. And I think it’s so much of this conflict and it’s a lot of people under the same roof trying to see things from the same perspective, but they just can’t because again, the immigrant gap and the cultural gap.
