Unraveling the Jordan Childs Bronze Medal Debacle: Updates, Controversies, and Pursuit of Justice

Y’all, I’m back with an update and the plot thickens. So if you’re not up to date with everything that’s going on with the Jordan Childs bronze medal debacle, you can tap this comment and go back and watch the previous video. So after the court of arbitration for sport snatched Jordan’s medal away, USA Gymnastics was like, I know y’all didn’t think this was over. So USA Gymnastics submitted timestamped video evidence that Coach Landy had submitted the inquiry 47 seconds after the score was published, which was within the one minute deadline. And that was followed by a second statement, 55 seconds after the score was posted. So we’re like, okay, we got this. There’s video evidence, but nope. So on Monday, the court of arbitration for sport notified USA Gymnastics that their rules don’t allow for an arbitral award to be reconsidered even when conclusive new evidence is presented. So basically case closed, no way to fight it. But again, USA Gymnastics is standing on business and they said, uh-uh, we’re not taking that answer. So USA Gymnastics is gonna continue to pursue every avenue for appeal, including taking it all the way to the Swiss Federal Tribunal because Jordan deserves our award and we want justice. But there’s more. On Tuesday, the Romanian Olympic Committee announced that Ana Barbosu would receive a medal in a ceremony on Friday, August 16th. But there’s more because now there’s a scandal. So apparently the head of the three-person court of arbitration for sport panel that snatched Jordan’s medal has a conflict of interest. He’s a lawyer and he’s represented Romanian interests for several years. According to this article, the court of arbitration for sports verdict was cloaked in secrecy and the court published a terse one-page statement confirming the decision, saying a detailed document outlining the reasoning behind the outcome eventually will be distributed. Sounds shady to me. Nevertheless, USA Gymnastics will continue to pursue this. And there is precedent for court of arbitration for sport decisions being overturned due to bias. In the article it says in 2021, the Swiss Federal Tribunal, the only body that can appeal a decision by the court of arbitration for sport requested a new hearing for a doping case involving a Chinese swimmer. Because one of the panelists may have had an anti-Chinese bias based on social media posts. The article also states that the Romanian Gymnastics Federation pushed for all three gymnasts to receive the bronze medal. That’s not what we want. So you know the internet’s gonna internet. People become unhinged and they just think they can say whatever they want behind a keyboard. So both USA Gymnastics and the Romanian Gymnastics Federation are asking for the social media attacks on these three gymnasts to stop. Jordan Childs has been the target of a barrage of racist comments on social media. And as announced over the weekend, Jordan is taking a break from social media for her mental health. Again, this is not fair to any of the gymnasts. It’s not their fault. So that’s the latest update. What are your thoughts? Leave them in the comments.
