Trapped in Intrigue: A Critical Review of M. Night Shyamalan’s Latest Film

I can’t keep getting away with it! I was able to watch trap M. Night Shyamalan’s latest that is unfortunately more in line with old than knock at the cabin. Not a total dumpster fire because the plot of a serial unaliver being trapped in a concert venue during like a Taylor Swift-esque like pop concert is awesome. The cat and mouse movements of the first two acts, I personally enjoyed the mystery of allure of what was actually happening. It was a perfectly crafted trail of breadcrumbs and intrigue. And then the third act kicks in and this is another two thirds movie and everything falls apart. I think it’s for two different reasons. The payoffs of the initial hour plus are weak and then things are dragged out way longer for another like 30 minutes or so, feeling like a Lord of the Rings extended, ending with three or four different moments that they could have instantly stopped right there. If anything I loved Josh Hartnett’s sinisterly goofy suburban dad performance. It was great. Dad jokes and all. But the trap ain’t it in the words of the late great Augie Farks.
