Honey Buns with a Sweet Twist: A Pregnancy Baking Adventure

Welcome back to Amanda learns to bake weekly bump day edition. This is episode 14 this week. I am six weeks pregnant and according to the what to expect app on the Disney edition, baby is as big as a honeybee from Winnie the Pooh. With that being said, we’re definitely making something with honey. And I decided on honey buns, which I’m super excited about. A lot of the recipes on Google did not include honey. So I had to incorporate honey in my own way. I’m not sure if that’s typical for honey buns or if that’s just Google and honey buns, not having honey. I don’t know. But I added honey and you’ll see where from here it’s just basically a cinnamon roll. And after that is where I incorporated honey to make it honey buns instead of cinnamon rolls. The dough itself was very easy to do. You just mix your dry ingredients and your wet ingredients, and then you combine them and you use a dough hook for 10 minutes until it turns into a dough. I will say the recipe I used made it more into a batter. So I had to add more flour to make it a dough. I will say that. Um, but other than that, the recipe is super easy. You let it rise, then you push it out, put cinnamon. You could put honey on the inside too. And then for me, I put butter for the second rise. And then I made a simple syrup with honey. So I incorporated the honey and I also made the glaze and I also incorporated honey instead of vanilla extract. And then after that when the honey buns came out of the oven, I poured that simple syrup on them to kind of moisten them up and give them that honey flavor. And then once they cooled down a little bit more, I dipped them into the glaze and then I just dumped the rest of the glaze on top. But honestly, these turned out so, so good. I wish that I would have put honey on the inside of the filling, but I realized late that this recipe had no honey in it. And I was like, what the heck? But honestly, such a good recipe when it was modified to what I wanted it to be. And I would 100% bake these again and keep the modifications that I did. But anyways, happy six weeks pregnant. See you in April, baby.
