Van Renovation Chronicles: Day Nine – The Insulation Saga

It’s day nine of renovating my Ford Transit. Today, I am insulating the van using Dodo Dead Sea insulation roll and Dodo Mat Eco-Fill 35 mil and 50 mil fleece insulation. In the last episode, I used Dodo Mat sound deadening to help reduce noise and vibration. Today’s episode is all about insulation and not just keeping you warm in the winter, but also keeping you cool in the summer. I began with using Dodo Mat’s Dead Sea foam insulation roll to cover as much of the panels as possible. This is a waterproof closed cell foam insulation that will absorb any heat and also any airborne noises passing through. This will also help the van be less echoey. One of the main reasons I went with it is because it will hugely reduce the condensation from building up on the panels during the winter months. I then went in with Dodo Mat’s Eco-Fill 35 mil and 50 mil fleece. This is made from recycled plastic bottles. It’s really easy to work with and also rips apart into small pieces so I could stuff it into all the nooks and crannies. I used the 50 mil fleece lining on the roof of the van and then the 35 mil in the smaller cracks. This type of insulation is essential for the coldermumps. It’s designed to provide as much insulation as possible and also doesn’t draw in too much moisture from the air. Dodo Mat also provided me with an adhesive glue to stick the fleece to the sides of the panels and the ceiling. And I even managed to rope in my mum to help me stick the larger pieces to the ceiling. Knowing the van is well insulated for the coldermumps in the UK is very important as I plan on having this as a full-time UK base. And now the van looks like a fluffy cloud. Make sure you come back and see what’s next for the Ford Transit renovation.
