One of the biggest scams in the PC hardware industry
is the labeling of graphics cards
in desktops and in laptops.
An RTX 40 90 in a laptop
performs significantly worse than an RTX 40 90 in a desktop,
yet they’re allowed to call it the exact same thing.
Kind of weird. To combat this,
fellow Youtuber Socket Science started a project 14 months ago
where he’s strictly using desktop grade parts
in a custom built laptop. Sure,
this looks a little chunky,
but it’s fully functional
using the exact parts that you put in a gaming PC.
The hardware isn’t super impressive.
Just a Ryzen 5 fifty six hundred X,
an A FIVE TWENTY ITX motherboard,
and an R X 60 six hundred XT.
He actually had to remove a lot of the little parts
from the motherboard and even the entire shroud on the GPU.
He then added a bunch of copper heat pipes,
plates, and heat sinks.
The internals look a little janky,
but this is an extremely impressive project
and I can’t believe it all actually works.
Highly recommend checking out Socket Science over on YouTube.
