Balancing Work and Rest: Detoxing from the Addiction of Achievement

I think addiction to work or work is an addiction.
It can be, and it is to me.
And it’s not a bad addiction.
I’d rather be addicted to that than meth,
but it is an addiction to work.
And so it’s almost like I need a detox.
I found this is like I need to detox from the habit
or the addiction of work and achievement.
And so, in other words,
when I go on vacation, yeah,
the first few days are usually actually pretty rough.
Like, I just. Like,
I gotta check my phone, I gotta do this thing.
So I’ve Learned a couple things.
When I leave my computer at home now,
almost always when I go on any kind of trip,
I just leave my computer. If I can’t do it on my phone,
then I don’t need to do it.
I have an iPad. I’ll leave that.
Even now, I have no option but to do that.
If I really feel that itch,
I should be reading. Like,
I can read a non fiction book on a beach and have a great time,
and that’s still kind of work,
but it’s also. That’s what I like to do for fun.
That is relaxing to me as to read a non fiction book on a beach.
So, yeah, I.
I struggle with it too, but it’s like,
I just have to detox for a few days
and then I’m usually fine.
It’s usually day, like,
four Of a vacation where I’m like, alright,
I can calm down a little bit here.
