Mastering Line Art: Transforming a Sketch into Digital Art with Procreate

Today
I’m gonna teach you how to turn a paper sketch into workable line art
on procreate.
First you wanna import your sketch
whether that be take a picture of it or paste it onto your workspace.
Next we’re gonna select the area that we want to turn into line art
with the freehand tool. This doesn’t have to be exact,
it just has to be uh the basic shape that you’re going with.
Next you’re going to hit invert
that will select all of the things outside of what you just selected
so that we can move them off the canvas.
Click the magic wand tool and hit curves.
This is where the secret sauce really comes in.
You’re going to move these two lines back and forth on the curves grid
until you figure out exactly where you want your line art to be.
One will be very close to the top
and one will be very close to the bottom
with almost no gap in between.
As you can see here all the sketches are gone,
the shadows are gone and we’re left with just the lines.
This is what mine looks like at the end
but yours might be a little bit different.
Now if you just want this to be a tattoo stencil
you can stop here but if you want to be able to colour your canvas
underneath your lines
you’re gonna wanna turn off your background layer,
select with the automatic setting
select All the white area that you can
this isn’t the best sketch for this
because there’s a lot of little tiny white areas. Um,
but it’ll do the trick for this tutorial.
We’re gonna select all of these
use the move tool to move them off your canvas
just like we did in the first step
turn your background layer back on
and now you can move a layer underneath and begin colouring
just like that. That’s all there is to it.
Let me know if you want another procreate tutorial.
