The Deceptive Oscar Run: Blake Lively’s Flippant Attitude in ‘It Ends With Us’

Everyone online is saying that it ends with us
was Blake Lively going for an Oscar,
but I actually have an opposite theory
and I think that Blake Lively was not interested in it ends with us
from the beginning
and that explains her flipping attitude that is now backfiring.
And I talk about my theory more in the evidence
and my thoughts on this episode of ahead of the curve with Coco Loco
podcast that comes out today.
But I want to briefly dive into it here on TikTok
to hear your guys’thoughts in the comments.
Point number one is that I think
if she was actually going for an Oscar,
she would have leaned into Justin Baldoni’s marketing
and really taken it a lot more seriously.
Instead, Blake Lively went for a more Barbie 2.0 marketing,
which we always know
that they don’t really give Oscars to that many comedy movies.
Even Margot Robbie didn’t get nominated for Barbie last year,
so she wouldn’t have leaned into the Barbie marketing
if she was going for an Oscar.
I also think Justin Baldoni wanted to tell a story with this theme
for a while and wanted to get it into the movie theaters,
but knew that he had to align himself with an existing franchise
or a popular book to do so.
Right now Hollywood has a creativity crisis
and everything going into theaters has to be from an existing
franchise or popular book,
and there’s really not a Ton of original stories anymore
except maybe A24. So
Justin Baldoni bought the rights to Colleen Hoover’s book
It Ends With Us because it dealt with those themes.
However, I don’t think that Colleen Hoover’s writing style
was ever going to be taken seriously enough
for the story that Justin Baldoni wanted to tell.
Of course I can’t put words in Colleen Hoover’s mouth,
and you never know. But to put it into context,
she tried selling a coloring book about domestic violence
with It Ends With Us,
which she got a ton of pushback for and had to pull it off the shelf.
I believe
this will be a common theme of the clashes between Baldoni and Hoover
Lively, which is profit over integrity of the story.
It’s kind of like Justin Baldoni wanted to score a touchdown,
but he was given a basketball team.
Yeah, they can score a ton of baskets,
but they’re never gonna score a touchdown.
And in an interview,
Colleen Hoover said that her first pick for Lily Bloom
was Blake Lively. And I saw a previous interview.
It might have changed since then,
but Blake Lively essentially said
she hadn’t even read that it ends with us book.
Which is why I
further think
that Blake Lively isn’t using this movie as an Oscar run.
I don’t think she even really cared about it to begin with,
or at least on the deep level that someone like Justin Baldoni did,
and that backfired.
On her by coming off flippant and detached in the PR.
I’m sure she got a really big payday
because Colleen Hoover said that she was the person she had in mind
and wanted to play Lily Bloom.
And this is why I think someone like Sadie Sink
might have actually
been a way better fit for the character of Lily Bloom.
One. She’s been a part of a movie that has won an Oscar,
so she could carry that serious undertone.
And she also kind of fits the age of Lily Bloom.
But let me know your thoughts and if you agree with my theory.
