Understanding and Overcoming Negative Feelings: An Empathetic Approach

Next time someone does something that you really,
really hate or that really,
really bugs you, here’s a tip.
As much strong
negative emotion you feel in that moment that they do that thing,
I want you to ask yourself a question.
That question is, why do I think that they’ve done this?
When you ask that question,
you pause your brain’s desire to clutch onto everything negative
and everything critical about that person.
And instead, you open your mind up to the reason.
The good reasons, the logical reasons,
the reasons that make more sense than the negative reasons
as to why they might have done that.
After all,
we only ever do something because it feels right to us at the time,
even if it’s a seemingly negative thing to do.
