The Cost of Customization: Insights from a Former McDonald’s Corporate Chef

why is McDonald’s so expensive
I’m a former McDonald’s corporate chef
and I have a cursed image that I am gonna show you
which very much sums up a lot of the things I said
of why McDonald’s is so expensive
I have talked before about how customized they are
we’re McDonald’s we want everything to be unique to us that nobody else has
the story goes I develop the glazed buttermilk crispy tenders
and instead of buying bowls to toss the tenders in with sauce
no no no
you needed some kind of contraption with the lid
that needed to be shaped a certain way in order for it to work
so every restaurant needs to buy a hundred and seventy dollar contraption
to glaze the tenders that is why a lot of things are so expensive
so here is the cursed image
this is a spatula okay
one that you could buy from a variety of stores
but not not this one
this is like the Cadillac of spatulas
that is made up of all these little components
and things to get the burger off the grill
instead of training people how to get the burger off the grill
what do you think is this a great example of why McDonald’s is so expensive
